Activities concerning the rediscovery of our traditions
Here we present briefly the activities our organization has been carrying out successfully for a few years in the field of popular traditions:
- Historical and linguistic research
- Restoration and rebuilding of musical instruments
- Rediscovery of traditional songs and music
- Traditional dances
- Publications
Historical and linguistic research
Our organization stands out for its research into the historical field, which has always been its main activity;
we study in particular the Pre-Christian and medieval period and the period of the Empreror Franz Joseph of
Habsburg's reign.
We focus our attention on the artistic field ( mainly painting), on literature ( above all Dante's work), on symbology
and heraldry but also on the study of the stars and their motion.
The purposes of this research are numerous: to inform about the Cimbric History, namely their migrations and habits
in the remotest times, to shed light upon certain historical periods which have not been dealt with plainly and to spread
the acquired knowledge.
We are no university researchers or important historians but we find delight in the historical research by contributing
humbly to the rediscovery of past events.
We also do research into the lingustic field with the intent to return (as much as possible ) to the Cimbric language and to the Venetian dialect. We focus in particular on the toponymy of various places in our valley and in the Cimbric land analysing some ancient languages, surnames' etymology and some dialects characterizing restricted areas (such as Ladin and Ancient Provençal.)
Restoration and rebuilding of musical instruments
Since its foundation the organization has worked a lot towards the retrieval, rebuilding and restoration of
musical instruments which belong to the Cimbric musical tradition
from the Middle Ages untill the last century.
The retrieved material is varied and presents musicological interest. Besides this we are acquiring
knowledge in order to be able to reproduce some musical instruments which have been lost but whose structure can
still be traced in many writings and iconographic sources.
Rediscovery of folk songs and music
The organization also researches and rediscovers folk music and songs in order to promote and hand down the Cimbric and Vanetian heritage and that of the other European areas linked culturally and historically to our land. Our research relies also on the material gathered by other researchers working on the same topic.
Traditional dances
The members of the organization devote their time also to the rediscovery and teaching of traditional dances in order to spread our cultural heritage which is in risk of becoming forgotten.
Occasionally we organize meetings and periods of training in our headqarters in Novaglie in order to teach the dances we have rediscovered to all the people who are interested in approaching the wonderful world of the traditional dance. Our knowledge of such dances relies also on research carried out by other organizations and folklore clubs active in our territory (for further information about them have a look at our links section).
Publications
Currently none of the books or cds which are about to be completed have been published. We are working on a Cimbric-Italian/ Italian-Cimbric dictionary ( comparing it mainly with German), a book about our valley, a book on the Cimbric surnames and their origin and a cd with the music played by our group.
