Our musical instruments
Among the many activities the organization gives particular attention to the rediscovery, rebuilding and restoration of musical instruments. On one hand we try to gather all the ancient instruments we can find in our valley but also in Lessinia. On the other hand we restore such instruments which are very often in awful conditions because of time's destructive effect and negligence. With our great satisfaction when we "bring them back to life" they reveal all their beauty and cultural-historical value, reproducing the typical sounds of the era they belong to.
Unfortunately tradition does not always leave behind evident traces, therefore it is necessary to rely on iconographic sources, drawings and treatises in order to rebuild musical instruments.
Our group is an original ensemble who put traditional wind and percussion instruments together with ancient (medieval/Renaissance) ones.
The rebuilt and restored instruments which we use in our performances are the following:
- Traditional instruments: button and keyboard accordions, hand organs, hurdy-gurdies, various types of racola, galicons and contrabasses, sboldrons, mandolins, mandolas, guitars, bagpipes ( not only ours but also the Scottish type and French musettes), violins, ocarinas, atanoris, curled horns, alphorns, bells and hand bells.
- Band instruments: various types of clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, brass instruments, flutes and recorders, bass-drums, rollers, cymbals, plates, triangles and many other percussion instruments.
- Ancient instruments: kanteles, lutes, hand organs, dianas, dulcimeras, other psalteries and flutes of various dimensions and tonalities.
