The Tzironda
Tzironda is the name we give to the hurdy-gurdy which was used in our area, it's a very ancient instrument originating probably in the early Middle Ages. Unlike in other zones like the Provançe its musical tradition has not survived in our area, therefore we had to rebuild completely this instrument which we usually play in our concerts.
There are many references to its use in Lessinia and in the surroundings of Vicenza but also in the whole region (Veneto). It used to be played both by the musicians at the village festivals and by the storytellers, very popular figures in this area. Many Venetian composers have also produced chamber music for this instrument.
